Dental sedation is not generally offered for routine dental cleanings or checkups, however, we may be able to offer it for patients with extreme anxiety.
Who could benefit from sedation for dentistry?
If any of these issues apply to you then you might want to consider dental sedation for your next appointment:
- Unusually sensitive oral nerves
- Resistance to local anesthetic
- General anxiety disorder
- Previous bad experience(s) with dental work
- Phobia around dental procedures
- Small mouth that becomes sore during dental work
If you suffer from any of the above issues then dental sedation could help you undergo the dental treatment that you need.
Dental sedation is useful in helping patients get through anything from root canals and tooth extractions, to dental implant procedures, with a minimum of stress.
However, dental sedation is not typically offered for regular dental cleanings, x-rays, and other routine dental care. Nonetheless, cases of extreme anxiety may be considered a viable reason for sedation during those routine procedures.
Is dental sedation right for me?
Speak with your dentist if you feel extremely anxious about the prospect of going to the dentist. They will be able to advise you on whether dental sedation is right for you, and if so, what type would be most beneficial in your unique case.
